Local talent attraction is a core part of the RTPark's economic development efforts here in the U.S.V.I. Talent attraction and retention not only helps reverse "brain drain" in our community and economy, but also illustrates the immense tech talent that the Virgin Islands produces, which helps foster business attraction from abroad.
We've already began our talent attraction and development efforts through our VISTA+ Platform and the Accelerate VI program but we wanted to take this further by connecting our over 80 RTPark companies to local talent like University of the Virgin Islands students. We have worked with vFairs to create an engaging Virtual platform where both students and RTPark clients have a chance to talk one on one, showcase their skills or business, and apply for or fill available employment opportunities.
Headquartered on the island of St. Croix, the University of the Virgin Islands Research and Technology Park (RTPark) is a specialized Economic Development Organization (EDO) designed to bring investment to the United States Virgin Islands by managing an incentive program and offering other advisory and technical services. It is a public-private partnership between the private sector, the USVI government, and the University of the Virgin Islands.
The primary goal of RTPark is to establish the U.S. Virgin Islands as a premier business destination of choice for technology and knowledge-based firms
Companies entering the RTPark can set up operations anywhere in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where they will benefit from best-inclass broadband communications services, numerous tax incentives, workforce development programs, and more.
VISTA+ is a curated talent attraction and retention program launched by the UVI Research and Technology Park, in partnership with the VI Department of Labor, that connects tech & STEM professionals within the Virgin Islands diaspora with opportunities to work in our growing USVI tech community. The program’s goal is to build capacity for the growing tech hub in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI). VISTA+ hosts a platform that allows USVI companies looking for tech or STEM talent to post current job vacancies including full-time and part-time jobs, apprenticeships, and internships in one central, curated location. Concurrently, Virgin Islanders around the world who seek local jobs can register to access the platform, create a profile that showcases their skills and experiences, and apply for employment opportunities. The program aims to build a network within our tech ecosystem.
The goal of Accelerate VI is to build a pipeline of promising, early-stage companies that are operating on a smaller scale than traditional RTPark Clients. Accelerate VI will give participants tools to grow and scale in the US Virgin Islands. As they hit certain milestones, participants will become traditional RTPark Clients, continuing to spur economic development in the territory. Accelerate VI will focus on early-stage companies in the territory, as well as attract early-stage entrepreneurs from around the world. CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT MORE
